Little One’s Feet – The do’s and dont’s for optimum foot health

Children’s podiatry - The do’s and dont’s for optimum foot health

Caring for our little one’s health is extremely important. From their first days in our arms to their first day of school and beyond as parents we always have our precious little one’s best interests at heart – and this extends from the top of their heads to the tips of their toes, quite literally.

Here we share ArchRite Podiatry’s do’s and don’ts for optimum little feet health, including some comment complaints and questions we often hear from concerned Mum’s and Dads.

Do’s

  • Be sure to check newborn and young babies for toe tourniquets. Crying for no obvious reason can be a giveaway their feet are in pain. This is when hair gets wrapped tightly around a toe causing pain and discomfort.

  • Carefully trim across your little one’s toenails with clippers or manicure scissors.

  • Allow your little one some barefoot time every day – it’s great for balance and healthy foot growth.

  • Use supportive sandals in the summertime. Magic Shoebox have great options for support and style. Take a look here.

  • Come with any questions or concerns to see our Podiatry trained in every aspect of children’s podiatry.

DONT’S

  • Choose onesies with enclosed feet that apply pressure to the toes. The fold-over enclosed foot style are a great choice to keep toes warm, but comfortable. We love Bond’s Wondersuits.

  • Tear off toenails or cut into the corners of nails.

  • Worry about flat feet in little ones under 2 years old – it’s normal.

  • Use thongs for walking, just for the beach and pool time.

  • Ignore complaints from your little one of foot and ankle pain or tired legs.
